WHY WE LIKE IT: We’re always on the lookout for apps that can make traveling easier and more enjoyable. Settle Up was a great discovery during a recent trip with friends. No more hassles when it comes to sharing bills!

Settle Up’s design is super intuitive. It only takes a moment to set up a group and start entering your expenses including name, date, time, etc. (You can enter as little or as much information as you’d like.) The app then asks: Who Paid? and Paid for Whom?, which allows it to track whether you paid for certain individuals or the entire group. It summarizes as you go—so everyone knows exactly how much they owe and what they’ve paid so far. (The information is also shown visually, so it’s a fun and easy way to decide whose turn it is to pay.) At the end, it does all of the calculations and settles up, using a minimum number of transactions to settle debts within a group.

Traveling abroad? No problem. You can easily change currencies and exchange rates. Plus, the app has been translated into 20 languages and even works offline. And while we’re fans of this app while on the road, it can also be used to track expenses with friends, roommates, colleagues anytime, anywhere—really any situation where you are sharing costs with a group.

The paid version of the app also allows you to take a photo of your receipts, which is not only helpful for keeping track of expenses, but also ensures that you’ll always remember the name of that idyllic little café in Paris.

HOW MUCH IT COSTS: $1.99 for iOS devices. The Android version is free (but you’ll have to put up with in-app ads.) Only one group member needs to download the app, which makes it a pretty affordable option for settling up.
