WHAT IT IS: It is literally the purple icon on your iPhone. It’s where you’ll find podcasts.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Have you heard? Podcasts are exploding in popularity. And finding and listening to shows has never been easier! With “the purple button” (aka the Apple Podcasts app), you’ll discover a world of podcasts covering just about every topic imaginable. (Fun fact: the word is a mashup of “iPod” and “broadcast.”)

Whether you are working out, commuting, walking your dog, or just relaxing, the Podcasts app is chock full of fantastic podcasts for you! Find what interests you and download an episode to try it out. Or, subscribe to a series so that you never miss your favorite shows.

Not sure where to start? You can search by title or topic. The app also includes a curated list of “Featured Podcasts” and highlights “Top Charts” so it’s easy to find something for everyone.

Once your podcast is downloaded it is stored so you can listen to it offline, anytime. Plus, you can speed it up or slow it down depending on your personal preference.

We are fans of many podcasts, but here are a few we’re listening to these days:

Have any podcast recommendations? (Send us an email athello@upnrunning.co or reach out to us on FB, Twitter, or Instagram.)

HOW MUCH IT COSTS: It’s free.

NOW, TAKE THE FIRST STEP: Look for the purple Podcasts icon, which is already installed on your iPhone, and search for a podcast/topic you might find of interest. Select “Subscribe”, and voila, new episodes will be automatically downloaded to your iPhone. You can also download older ones that you may have missed. Click on “My Podcasts” each time to find your own custom playlist.

If you are an Android user, you can use an app such as Stitcher or Soundcloud to get your podcast fix. Of course, you can always visit the podcast’s website directly and download it to your computer, too. Happy listening!
