WHAT IT IS: A website that shares food news and restaurant recommendations from around the country.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Hungry anyone? Eater is a great discovery tool for finding new places to dine. Covering restaurants in cities across the U.S., it’s a reliable and relevant guide for finding good eats from fine dining to fabulous food trucks and everything in between.

The bread and butter of the site, in our opinion, is the Eater 38, which highlights 38 “essential” restaurants in 24 cities. Each list is presented in no particular ranking order and is updated seasonally so it stays fresh.

The site is mobile–friendly and includes a photo, short description, and link to a website for each venue on the list. Plus, there are helpful maps that show neighborhoods and locations across the city so you can easily answer the question “where should we eat?”

Speaking of maps, check out the Eater Heatmap—another fun feature that shows the hottest new restaurants in town right now. (Foodies will love this!) Use Eater to discover new restaurants in your hometown or a city you plan to visit. You can even find places to stop for a meal when you’re on a road trip, which is a great way to get a taste for a new city (even if you’re only passing through.) Bon appetit!

P.S. Eater is owned by Vox Media, the digital media ‘unicorn’ that counts Re/code among its’ media brands.

HOW MUCH IT COSTS: It’s free to access the Eater 38 lists, Heatmaps, and reviews via the website.

NOW, TAKE THE FIRST STEP: Discover the Eater 38 Essential Restaurants in your city or destination. (Here is Chicago’s, for example). It’s simple to search on your phone to find places to eat on the go!
