WHAT IT IS: A private social network—just for your neighborhood.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Have you ever wanted to organize a block party in your area but haven’t yet met the new neighbors? Or, needed to make a home repair, but not sure whom to call? Nextdoor to the rescue!

This company makes it easy to share information with people in your neighborhood and nearby neighborhoods. You can ask for recommendations about anything from A to Z including service providers, local merchants, and more.

Want to sell, buy, donate, or borrow something? There’s a classified section for that. Plus, you can publicize events, get safety alerts, and access the “Lost and Found”, which can definitely come in handy if you are searching for a missing pet. The company requires that you verify your identity and address to join. So, you can see actual names for who is posting/replying and communication is restricted to those in your area.

In a world where technology often makes us feel less connected to one another, Nextdoor is a place that helps bring people together. It’s a great way to meet the new neighbors, too!

HOW MUCH IT COSTS: It’s free to join.

NOW, TAKE THE FIRST STEP: Go to Nextdoor, input your street address and look to see whether your neighborhood already has a Nextdoor community online. If so, join it! If not, start one! Nextdoor makes it easy to invite neighbors via email, flyer or even a postcard. Happy connecting!
