The Scout Guide

WHAT IT IS: A network of online and print tastemaker guides that highlight local artists, artisans, entrepreneurs, and independent businesses.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Heading out of town and want to shop local? Then, check out The Scout Guide!

From Chicago to Charleston to Charlottesville (where it was founded in 2010), The Scout Guide (TSG) allows you to get a flavor for local fashion, food, art, and fun in more than 60 cities across the country.

The guides are available in a printed magazine-like format, but can also be found digitally on the website along with tips and special features.

What differentiates TSG is that they use creative photography to showcase each business and capture the spirit of a community. No boring lists here! Plus, a local editor “scouts out” and assembles each guide, which adds a personal touch.

Want to support your local retailers? TSG’s are a perfect way to discover unique “finds” in your city, too!

HOW MUCH IT COSTS: Free to use digitally. Beautiful print publications for each locale are available for purchase on the website.

NOW, TAKE THE FIRST STEP: Subscribe to The Scout Guide in your local city for a daily update OR simply visit the site before you travel~ An easy place to start is to leaf through The Scout Guides.
